This seems to be a rather simple question, and everyone has an answer for it. Go ahead go to Youtube and do a search on HOW TO MARKET ONLINE Now go do a search on Google! HOW TO MARKET ONLINE (Both links are live and will take you to respective sites) You will find some interesting but rather vague articles with bullet points on how to effectively market online. You will undoubtedly see that the first listing for the search how to make money online is actually an article from CNN MONEY DATED in 2007 now what amazes me is the simplicity of this article. DID WE LEARN SOMETHING ? uhmmmm NO! so here are some bullet points on how to market online courtesy of CNN MONEY
- Create a simple, effective Web site. (ok ummm duh)
- Become a blogger, (this was in 2007 in the midst of the BLOGGING CRAZE MIND YOU but still applies)
- Try podcasting. (DEAD)
- Smile, you’re on YouTube! (Youtube has been abused as a marketing medium, and given the socialization of many sites and integration of twitter, facebook, hi-5 and myspace, to have an effective presence on youtube and make the evening local news, you have to do something STUPID, FUNNY, or PIMP THE HELL OUT OF YOUR KIDS lol)
Another Interesting article on how to market online comes courtesy of an Ehow here are some of their bullet points
- The first step is to start a blog. (Do I Need To Say DUH AGAIN)
- The next step is to do the social network thing (People on facebook don’t buy, they stalk their exes)
- Go onto Twitter (in 160 characters or less tellem why they should buy … YEAH RIGHT!!!)
- Check out what’s trending by visiting social bookmark sites: Digg, Delicious, Fark, Mixx, Newsvine, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and Diggit. (I personally use Google Trends)
- Go onto YouTube (READ THE YOUTUBE BULLET ABOVE!!!)
- Join professional networking sites such as LinkedIn (This could work if everyone wasn’t spamming it to sell something )
- Be patient. (REALLY ? That’s all you can say ? although this is a critical component to success in anything we do, body builders don’t become one over night…)
Now what if I told you all of these things make sense but just make you seem BUSY, I mean surely there is some valid points made by the both of these articles, but 1 point stands out
START A BLOG
Starting a blog is the first vital step in your attempt to make money online, assuming you want to make money online considering you want to learn HOW TO MARKET ONLINE CORRECT ? they just go together!!!
Now what if I said that all of those bullet points though they have merit purposely avoid a very important concept … SEO … No one on Google or on Youtube will ever utter the words SEO like it’s some sort of sacrilegious thing against one learning how to market online. Truth is no one talks about SEO because it takes away from the sexy element of how to make money online . Think about it! it’s supposed to be easy to make money online, actually everything that includes the word INTERNET is accompanied by the concept of easy correct ? Connect with friends the easy way via facebook, easily check your bank accounts online via “online banking”, easily meet the love of your life online via match.com, or easily save money by shopping on Amazon. Therefore learning how to market online should be easy correct ? and everyone from 12 year old kids to 89 year old grandmothers have the simple marketing solution via some incredible system to help you achieve just that. With some click of a button your blog is witnessed by the millions of seekers online who want to BUY FROM YOU !
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP
I will also like to rant while on the subject of marketing: If you are using a tool such as Phoneburner (an auto dialer) to spam call (auto telemarket) every Tom, Dick & Harry – you deserve to burn in hell, this isn’t marketing this is begging, this is soliciting, this is about leaving those cheesy “how would you like to learn ….) messages that just take up space on my voice-mail system. This is about ruining my primetime television and sex life

I know how to market online, I make hundreds of thousands a year marketing online, and I do it ethically without spammy emails that contrive a notion of desperation, yes MR. MIKE you sound desperate… and well there seems to be a lot of desperate people out there who would rather spam someone’s email or telephone rather than learn to actually MARKET ONLINE … THIS IS INTERESTING

Ok SEO… now let me give you an example of what SEO does… SEO helps you to better rank your site so that when people search for something, they land on your page. The more people who search, and the more they land on your page, the more they buy something…Einstein figured this out while “taking a shit in” it’s a simple freaking notion right…
So lets show you the power of SEO … lets do a search on Google
Lets search the phrase “Lead Generation Tips 2012” (the link is active and will take you to this search). What you will find is this blog is NUMBER 1, on page 1 … Did I sit on facebook begging people to visit my site ? did I beg people via some spammy auto dialer to visit my site ? did I use some cheesy email to get people to click to my site ? NO, NO and NO
SEO lets people find me when they are ready to find me, SEO lets me market passive aggressively. SEO lets me establish authority, after all who goes to page 2 , 3 , or 4 when searching ? Page 1 presence on Google simply by being listed automatically makes you an authority and reference to the subject or term being searched.
I am a firm believer of SEO … it’s made me lots of money, I mean lots of money. More importantly SEO is transparent. You can see the results, by watching your website climb up the search engines. Google also provides a tool via Google Analytics that allows you to see what search terms are bringing traffic to your site, again SEO is measurable and when done right it’s consistent.
Marketing Online should not be some fashion statement: it should not consist of using one social phenomenon such as Facebook today, but then jumping on the next big thing tomorrow. Marketing Online needs to withstand the test of time …
Going back to the ARTICLE from CNN MONEY that I spoke of earlier in this post … it was written in 2007 and here we are 2012 and it’s still there, still page 1, still giving readers outdated information, BUT STILL THERE all made possible with SEO (search engine optimization)
