Unsure as to why anyone would need to Unblock Craigslist to post on Craigslist with? There are several very good reasons why you may need one. The cause of these reasons is how Craigslist has changed and evolved over the years as it has become the largest online classified website.

The first reason why someone might need a proxy to unblock Craigslist is due to their IP or spam filtering system. Craigslist, in an attempt to limit spam on the website, has several filters in place that log IPs and the amount of ad posts from each specific IP. If an IP is detected as having posted too many ads, the spam filter will be activated and all future ads from that IP will be blocked. If you’ve ever had ads ghosted and don’t show up on Craigslist, then there is a good chance this is your problem.

The next reason why you may require a proxy is because there are rumours that Craigslist has a new geo location spam filter in place. This new filter is rumoured to only allow you to post ads in areas on Craigslist that match where your IP comes from. In a nutshell, if you live in New York then your IP will be from New York and you can only post ads in the New York area.

Two good reasons why you might need to Unblock Craigslist are the new possible geo location filter and the classic IP logging used to block ads. With the massive amounts of traffic has to offer, it makes sense that getting your own proxy is worth its weight in gold.

Pipes to query Craigslist in New York City for apartment listings (all brokers / fees too). The Yahoo! Pipe feed adds on (this functionality rocks) a Latitude / Longitude geo-coding if it can find anything that looks like an address in any of the fields in the RSS feed, in our case apartment listings. So I build a URL for CL with the right parameters to hit newyork.craigslist.com with apartment search terms, the listing offset (page in increments of 25), and how many bedrooms. For example: newyork.craigslist.org Then using Yahoo! Pipes, we can build this URL with some simple inputs for query, bedrooms, and “s” (start offset). Pipes will output the new feed with only listings for which it can determine some lat/lon coordinates with reasonable probability. The Yahoo! Pipe outputs a REST interface like so: pipes.yahoo.com Step 2: Using Proto, query the Yahoo! Pipes REST API a number of times with multiple search phrases. For example, get the first 4 pages (100) results for each of “williamsburg”, “les”, and “lower east side”. Then Proto groups these all back together into a single feed for further display, storage, and analysis. This is nice since the Yahoo! Pipe service will usually only return about 25% of the results …
